10 habits for a perfect morning routine
Drink water. A simple thing you can do is to drink water right as you wake up. Drinking a glass of water will help cleanse your body and hydrate you after a night of sleep. In case you can’t make it a habit, it’s okay. Drinking water while you wait for your tea or coffee to get ready is a simple hack which can easily be incorporated into a morning routine.
Light stretches. Start your day by easing your muscles of any tension and get the blood flowing. Simple stretching exercises made into a routine will help you feel energised as you wake up and boost your mood due to the endorphins released into your system!
Make your bed. This is a great way to also incorporate mindfulness and be productive at the same time. Folding your blanket, making your sheets prim and proper and arranging your pillows properly is a fairly simple task. While doing so, pay attention to every fold, the feel of the cloth and as you clean your bed, notice the difference before and after you made the bed. Moreover, it’s a task completed, so it gives you motivation right at the start of your day!
Don’t check your phone. When you wake up, don’t check your phone. Rather than checking your phone and browsing through emails and social media, keep it aside for the first 30 minutes of your day. Take care of your body and mind, spend time with yourself and then immerse yourself into your phone and all the distractions it may bring.
Mindful brushing. Before you eat breakfast, brush your teeth. To make it even better, try mindful brushing. Focus on every small movement your brush makes, the scent of the toothpaste and observe how your mouth feels after you’re done brushing. It’s a great way to incorporate a couple of minutes of mindfulness into your day and will help you relax as you wake up.
Wash your face. Right before you brush or after, give your face a little rinse. By doing so, you’ll clean your skin and refresh yourself. Any laziness you may be feeling will be gone and you’ll feel ready to attack the day!
Meditate. Just take out 5 minutes from your morning to meditate and spend some time in silence. It will relax your body, balance your mind and give you a chance to let go of any stress or morning anxiety. It can be as simple as focusing on your breath for a short period of time and noticing how you feel. It’s effective and will allow you to feel clear as you head into your day.
Affirmations. Starting your day by reciting affirmations or positive thoughts of gratitude are a great way to set the tone. Simple things like “Today is a good day” or “I am grateful for my breakfast” or “I am looking forward to today” can help you feel positive and put a smile on your face. If you do this every day, you will slowly feel yourself becoming happier and more relaxed.
Eat breakfast. While it may sound quite straightforward, there are many who don’t eat a healthy breakfast everyday. It’s the most important meal of the day and you need to eat it to give your body fuel for the remainder of the day.
Mindful chai. Drinking a cup of chai in the morning gives you energy and helps you feel refreshed. By practicing mindful chai, you can incorporate a few more minutes of mindfulness into your day. Observe the temperature of the cup, the taste of your chai and the aroma! It has many benefits and gives you a good start to the day!
Spend time with your family. Ideally while you eat breakfast, but doing this is always a good thing. Talk to them, ask them how they slept and generally catch up. Spending time with those you care for will always be a good thing.
