It is normal to get distracted while working or completing a particular task. During these times of coronavirus, you may be working from home in an environment which is new to you. At such a time, keeping your focus and productivity may be a challenge too! Meditation for focus can help.

There are several meditation techniques to help you in case you’re having a tough time concentrating and are unable to focus. Here’s a simple technique we recommend you try.

How to practice meditation for focus and settle your thoughts

Step 1. Focus on your breath. Keep breathing normally and pay attention to your breathing while you observe your body’s rhythm as you breathe. There is no need to alter your breathing pattern, keep it natural. Follow your body and notice how your chest and abdomen expand as you breathe.

Step 2. Focus on an object Look around wherever you are and notice your surroundings. Pick an object you’d like to focus on as you meditate. It could be any object, big or small. Then, begin to slowly stare at it with all your attention. Focus your vision wholly on the object and blur out everything else around it.

Step 3. Settle your thoughts. Allow your thoughts to come and go, while you focus on the object. Notice any thoughts that come into your mind. Don’t judge your thoughts, just observe them and then turn your focus back to the object in front of you.

Try doing this for around two minutes and see how you feel. You can even use Evolve’s guided audio on this very exercise.
